April 4th - The first games of the month saw Drogheda United regain top spot in the table. Goals from Warren Davis and Darragh Markey gave the hosts a two-nil win at home to Waterford. That moved Kevin Doherty's side onto fifteen points, one ahead of St Patricks Athletic in second place. The Inchicore side welcomed Shelbourne to Richmond Park but the game was a bit of a damp squib, ending scoreless. Pats were missing Aidan Keena who suffered a hamstring injury last time out - Stephen Kenny will be hoping to get his top scorer back on the pitch sooner rather than later. After ending Drogheda's unbeaten start to the season, Shamrock Rovers did the same to previously unbeaten Galway United. The only goal at Eamon Deacy Park came early in the second half. Tuam native Rory Gaffney, starting his first game in almost a year, scored the only goal as the Hoops moved into contention in the title race. A win in their game in hand would move Stephen Bradley's side to a point of the leaders. There was relief for under fire manager Alan Reynolds as his Bohemians side won an early season relegation six-pointer at home to Sligo. Bohs were two up in four minutes before John Russell's side restored parity before half time. However, two late goals from Ross Tierney and Dawson Devoy earned all three points for the Phibsboro side. Cork City dropped into the relegation playoff place after a two-one defeat in Derry. The Leesiders were ahead but second half goals from Ronan Boyce and Michael Duffy earned Tiernan Lynch's side their third win of the season. A controversial week in the first division saw three teams punished for fielding ineligible players on the opening day of the season. This one might run a bit though with all three teams blaming the FAI for the problems faced. On the pitch, Dundalk opened up a seven point lead at the top of the table - Leo Gaxha scored the only goal in a one-nil win over UCD at Belfield. Two one-nil wins on the road saw Bray Wanderers move up to second in the table. Wins at UCD and Athlone have the Seagulls flying high, recovering well from that recent hammering at Finn Harps. Wexford channeled their anger at the FAI with a three-one win at Cobh Ramblers. Two defeats in a week have set back Cobh's promotion ambitions. Longford were denied a win at Finn Harps by Joel Bradley-Walsh's injury time equaliser for the ten-men hosts. Kerry are bottom of the table after a three-nil defeat at Treaty United. Paul Callaghan leads the April leaderboard after the first round of games. His score of 55 points this week included three ten-pointers. Francis Gilligan is in second place - he's seven points off the lead. Sean Judd is in third place with Gerry Draper a point further back in fourth: |

April 11th - A three-one win in the Brandywell consolidated Drogheda's place at the top of the table. An eventful few minutes saw Liam Boyce booked, score his first goal for Derry and then get booked again. Kevin Doherty's side showed their resilience after that - Conor Keeley scored twice and Warren Davis netted his third goal in three games to clinch another win for the Louth side. St Patricks Athletic remain in second place. Goals from Chris Forrester and Brandon Kavanagh gave the Saints a straightforward win in Cork. Galway United are third in the table - two Cian Byrne goals helped them to a two-one win at Sligo on Saturday night. Owen Elding pulled one back for John Russell's side but they remain three points adrift at the bottom of the table. A Dublin Derby saw Shelbourne beat Bohemians one-nil. Mipo Odubeko's third goal of the season was enough to earn the three points for the champions who lie just two points off the leaders. Shamrock Rovers beat Waterford two-nil in Tallaght to continue their progress up the table. Goals from Aaron McEneff and Lee Grace made it five games unbeaten for Stephen Bradley's side. A win at home to Cork on Monday night could move the Hoops up to joint second in the table ahead of Friday's visit to Inchicore. Dundalk's lead at the top of the first division is seven points. They beat Cobh Ramblers one-nil on Friday night with Jonas Hakkinen's own goal the only goal in Oriel Park. Bray Wanderers' good run continued - they beat Treay United two-one in the Carlisle Grounds. Richard Ferizaj scored the winner for the Wicklow side on the hour. Wexford are fourth in the table. They beat Longford three-one on Tuesday night in their match in hand. They followed that up with a two-all draw at home to Finn Harps on Friday night. UCD won one-nil in Longford on Saturday night to move into the final playoff place. Kerry moved off the bottom of the table with a three-nil win over Athlone on Friday night. There's a vacancy in the Athlone dugout with manager Dario Castelo departing the club after that defeat which left the Midlanders bottom of the table. Paul O'Callaghan leads the April competition for a second week. He has a four point lead over Sean Judd in second place. Alan O'Brien is up to third place with Darragh Kenny and Niall Hayden sharing fifth place. |

April 18th - Good Friday saw eighteen goals scored in the five Premier Division games played. The points were shared at Sullivan Lambe Park and Richmond Park. Drogheda United and Shelbourne drew two-all with Sam Bone scoring at both ends of the pitch. The hosts lead twice in that game with Warren Davis scoring his fifth of the season before Damien Duff's side hit back to earn a good point on the road. It also finished two-all in Richmond Park between St Patricks Athletic and Shamrock Rovers. Mason Melia's opener was cancelled out by Jack Byrne's second goal of the week. Lee Grace looked to have won it three minutes from time before Joe Redmond rescued a point deep in injury time for Stephen Kenny's side. Keith Long received his P45 following Waterford's four-nil defeat at home to Sligo Rovers. Nine people had picked him in the sack race and will receive a little Easter bonus of fifteen extra points this week. That win moved Sligo off the bottom of the table. They're replaced in last place by Cork City who lost twice in Dublin this week - a four-one defeat at Shamrock Rovers was followed by a one-nil defeat at Dalymount on Friday night - James McManus scored a very late winner for Alan Reynolds side ahead of their trip to Tallaght on Monday. Galway slipped to a surprise defeat at home to Derry. The Candystripes won three-two with Gavin White's late goal proving to be the winner. Dundalk's progress in the first division hit a speed bump as Yousef Mahdy scored a late leveller for Treaty United in their clash in Limerick. Daryl Horgan had opened the scoring for the leaders not long before that. Bray Wanderers winning run continued with a four-nil win at home to Longford Town. The Seasiders fifth win on the bounce included goals from brothers Conor and Rhys Knight. Cobh Ramblers are third in the table after a one-nil win at home to UCD. Billy Gilmore scored a last minute equaliser for Athlone at home to Wexford. Finn Harps climbed to sixth in the table after a four-two win at home to Kerry who dropped to bottom place after that defeat. Sean Judd's score of 51 points this week included a fifteen point bonus from the sack race. He now leads Alan O'Brien in second place by eighteen points heading into the Easter Monday games. Paul Callaghan is third for the month followed by Shane Coughlan and Gary Donnelly, two more beneficiaries of the Waterford heave. Full details below: |

April 21st to 26th - It was one of those weeks in the Premier Division where form and logic went out of the window. A hint of things to come came in the first match of the week when Bohemians came from two goals down to record a famous victory at Shamrock Rovers. Rhys Brennan came off the bench to score a winner in the 97th minute in Tallaght and send the Phibsboro faithful home happy. Another late winner came on Friday night when St Patricks Athletic were beaten two-one in Dalymount. Chris Forrester fired the visitors ahead from the spot but two goals in injury time from Rob Cornwall and Sean Grehan sent Alan Reynolds's side to within two points of top spot. Drogheda United and Galway share the lead on 20 points after the latest round of games. Four goals in four days sent Moses Dyer top of the scoring charts. He scored twice in a two-all draw at Shelbourne on Easter Monday. He then repeated the feat on Friday as John Caulfield's side came from behind to beat Drogheda two-one out west. Kevin Doherty's side remain top despite only picking up one point this week - a nil-all draw at home to St Patricks Athletic on Monday. Shelbourne's third consecutive two-all draw came in Tallaght on Friday night. Goals from Ali Coote and Mido Odubeko cancelled out Matt Healy's opener before Dan Cleary rescued a point for Stephen Bradley's side. The three Dublin sides are just a point off the lead after those games. Waterford picked up a win on Friday night beating Derry two-one. That came after a two-one defeat at Cork on Monday - Kitt Nelson scored a 95th minute winner for the Leesiders in that one. Nelson was on the scoresheet again on Saturday night but Cork were denied a second win of the week after Francely Lomboto's last minute equaliser for Sligo at the Showgrounds. Sligo remain bottom of the table having lost three-nil to Derry earlier in the week. Dundalk's lead at the top of the first division is now three points. They got back to winning ways on Saturday night winning three-nil in Longford. That was after drawing one-all at home to Finn Harps on Monday. Bray Wanderers made it a club record seven wins in a row with two victories at home this week over UCD and then Kerry. Cobh Ramblers also picked up two wins this week and are third in the table. Wexford and Treaty United occupy the final two play off spots. An excellent score of 84 points from this week's games saw Francis Gilligan snatch the monthly prize for April. He had just two points to spare over the rest with Alan O'Brien and Niall Hayden next best, shaing second place. Ross Williams was fourth with fifth place shared by Brian Donnelly, myself and Sean Judd: |
