August 4th to 6th - A hard fought two-one win at home to Cork City saw Shamrock Rovers maintain their four point lead at the top of the table. Goals from Graham Burke and Liam Burt (his first for the club) gave the Hoops their first victory and goals from open play since June. St Patricks Athletic and Bohemians kept up their pursuit of the leaders. Pats won by two goals to nil in Sligo and Bohemians beat Drogheda four-two at Dalymount. Jonathan Afolabi scored twice to keep his excellent scoring run going. They both meet in a big game at Inchicore on Friday night where neither can afford to drop points with just ten games to go. Sunday's other game saw Dundalk and Shelbourne share the points at Oriel Park. John Martin opened the scoring for the hosts but Harry Wood equalised late on for the visitors. The game between UCD and Derry was postponed due to the Northern side's continued participation in Europe and a midweek trip to Kazaksthan. Late goals were the order of the day in the first division. Galway got pegged back by a late equaliser in Donegal as Finn Harps recovered to draw two-all. Waterford cut the gap on the leaders to sixteen points with a straightforward three-nil win at home to Kerry. The four teams in contention for three play off spots all met and shared the points after two-all draws. There was plenty of drama at the Carlisle Grounds where Athlone scored an injury time equaliser against nine man Bray Wanderers. Cobh Ramblers came from two goals down to earn a point at home to Wexford too. A late winner for Longford in the final game on Friday night saw them climb above Treaty United and keep their play off hopes alive. The early leaderboard for August sees Trevor Rankin lead the way on 48 points. He's five points clear of four people - Brian Boyle, Caroline Carroll, Christopher Uzell and Niall Carroll - full details below: |

August 11th to 13th - It was a good week domestically for Derry City. They were the only one of the top four to win this weekend. After a long trip to Kazaksthan midweek they returned to home soil to record a three-nil win over Drogheda United. That result leaves them five points behind the leaders with a game in hand (against UCD). The other title contenders dropped points as both Dublin Derbies ended in draws. Shamrock Rovers looked to be heading towards a huge three points until Gavin Molloy headed an injury time equaliser for Shelbourne at Tolka Park, cancelling out Markus Poom's opener. The game between St Patricks Athletic and Bohemians finished scoreless at Richmond Park. The final two games in the top division saw Dundalk win one-nil at home to Sligo Rovers. UCD came from behind to earn a point at Cork City but still remain fourteen points behind their relegation rivals. In the first division, Galway's lead remains at sixteen points. That's after a late equaliser gave them a two-all draw at Waterford in the big game in that division this weekend. Cobh Ramblers and Athlone look good bets for a play off spot - Cobh shared six goals and the points with Bray Wanderers at St Coleman's Park. Athlone won four-two on Saturday evening at Longford. Wexford occupy the final play off spot. They came from two goals down to beat Kerry three-two and pick up three vital points. The final game in the first division on Friday night saw Treaty United stay in with a shout of a play off spot after they won one-nil at Finn Harps. An excellent return of 66 points since the last update sees Gerry Moore move into top spot in the August competition. He has a two point lead over Gary Fitzpatrick in second place. Our overall leader, Brian Boyle, is in third place just six points off the lead - the same tally as Niall Carroll who climbs to fourth. Full details below: |

August 25th and 26th - It's four weeks since Pico Lopes was racially abused leaving Oriel Park after Dundalk beat Shamrock Rovers in the FAI Cup. On Friday night he rose high to head home the only goal as Rovers beat the Louth side one-nil in a tight game in Tallaght. I hope the Dundalk "fan" was watching as a lovely slice of karma was delivered. St Patricks Athletic remain four points behind the leaders after a one-nil win at UCD - Joe Redmond headed home the winner just before half-time at the Belfield Bowl. Perhaps the most significant result of the evening was the two-all draw between Bohemians and Derry City at Dalymount. Both sides were ahead at one stage during the game but Jonathan Afolabi's penalty ensured the points were shared, both teams losing ground in the title race as a result. Shelbourne kept up their European ambitions with a one-nil win in Sligo on Saturday night. Drogheda moved eight points clear of Cork when they came from behind against the Leesiders to win three-one on Friday night. In the first division, Galway United edged closer to promotion with a four-one win over Cobh Ramblers. Waterford won by a single goal at Bray to almost guarantee their play off spot (not that it's ever really been in doubt). Wexford picked up a very big three points on Friday night when they went to fourth placed Athlone and won two-nil. They're in the final play off spot, four points clear of Longford Town who also picked up a big win on the road, winning one-nil at Finn Harps. Monday night's rearranged game between Treaty United and Waterford will decide our August winner. Kevin Nolan currently leads with a score of 139 points. He has a two point lead over Brian Boyle and Niall Carroll in joint second place. David Doyle is in fourth place followed by Gerry Moore in fifth - a ten pointer for any of the top five might be enough to win our latest monthly prize: |

August 28th - Just three people correctly predicted a draw between Treaty United and Waterford which meant there was no late drama in the August competition. Kevin Nolan picked up two points from Waterford's goals which meant he won the monthly prize by just two points. Brian Boyle and Niall Carroll shared second place with the top five completed by David Doyle and Gerry Moore. You can see the final standings for August below: |
