August 2nd to 5th - The much anticipated top of the table clash between Shelbourne and Derry City ended scoreless on Monday night. Shelbourne would have been happy enough with a point before kick off. Derry would have settled for one too when Sam Todd was sent off for two yellow cards in the first half. The gap at the top remains three points in favour of Damien Duff's side who have a game in hand.

Shamrock Rovers hopes of European competition next season were boosted by their second two-one win of the season in Waterford. Graham Burke came off the bench to score the winner with just five minutes to go. That win saw Rovers regain third spot in the table from the hosts with two games in hand.

Galway United are one of four sides on 37 points - two Stephen Walsh goals gave them victory over Dundalk in Oriel Park. Sligo Rovers are also on 37 points - they left Richmond Park feeling very aggrieved after losing by the odd goal in five. Brandon Kavanagh scored the winner for St Patricks Athletic in the eighth minute of five minutes injury time from the penalty spot - to say the award of the spot kick by Rob Hennessy was dubious would be a bit of an understatement.

Charlie Lyons rescued Cork City from what would have been just their second defeat of the season - he scored in the ninth minute of injury time in a one-all draw at Treaty United. The Limerick side had been ahead from early in the second half through Mark Byrne's goal. The Leesiders remain fifteen points clear of Athlone Town who came from three-one down to earn a point at home to Kerry.

Bray Wanderers were one of only two winners in division one on Friday night - they picked up a two-one at Finn Harps to retain their six point cushion in the playoff race. Cobh Ramblers stayed in touch with a one-nil win at home to the bottom side Longford Town. Wexford picked up a useful point on the road at UCD - that game also finishing one-all. Wexford's game in hand at home to Athlone Town might prove decisive in their play off ambitions.

The first leaderboard of the August monthly competition sees David King lead the way on 48 points - he picked up points in eight of the ten games played this weekend. Andy Dunne is two points behind on second place with Carl Toner in third place. John Brophy, on 40 points, is in fourth place - full details below:

August 9th to 12th - Shelbourne slipped to their fourth defeat of the season after losing in Sligo on Saturday night. Sligo's winner came in the second half from Wilson Waweru after Evan Caffrey had cancelled out Will Fitzgerald's opener. The Bit'o'Red are now joint fourth in the table after their recent excellent run. The loss wasn't too damaging for Damien Duff's side as Derry had dropped points the night before. They were held to a one-all draw by Dundalk in the Brandywell and needed a Danny Mullen equaliser for a point after John Mountney had opened the scoring.

Bohemians' wretched recent run continued with a three-two loss at home to Waterford. They were two up before old manager Keith Long's side mounted a comeback culminating in Samuel Glenfield's winner. The home side even missed a penalty in injury time which would have saved a point. Any optimism Shamrock Rovers had about mounting a comeback in the title race was snuffed out on Sunday night. They missed the chance to close the gap on the top two after a one-all draw at home to Drogheda United. Darragh Burns gave the Hoops the lead but the bottom side earned a much-needed point from Douglas James-Taylor's late equaliser. Sunday's other game saw St Patricks Athletic leave Galway with a point after a one-all draw.

Friday night's game between the top two ended in a scoreless draw as Cork City and Athlone Town couldn't muster a goal between them. UCD closed the gap on Athlone to a point following a one-nil win at Bray Wanderers. It was a great weekend for Wexford - they followed up a two-nil win at home to Finn Harps with a three-two win at Athlone on Monday night from two goals down. James Keddy's side are now fifth in the table in the final play off place.

The other two games in the first division saw away wins. Cobh Ramblers won two-nil in Kerry on Friday night. Enda Curran scored a hat-trick on Saturday night in Treaty United's four-one win at lowly Longford.

We have joint leaders in the August monthly competition after the weekend's games - David King and Jason Shanahan share the lead on 73 points. Ahead of the final weekend, Andy Dunne is just two points behind. The top five for August so far is completed by Carl Toner and Conor O'Neill - full details below:

August 23rd to 25th - Shelbourne lost their place at the top of the table for the first time since March. They dropped points for the fourth consecutive game drawing one-all with Bohemians. Danny Grant opened the scoring for the D7 side but Ali Coote equalised a couple of minutes later. Both goals came in the first half, neither team able to find a winning goal. Derry City took advantage (for a change!) winning one-nil in Waterford. Ben Doherty scored the only goal but was given a big helping hand by the home keeper who caught his cross then carried the ball over the line. Derry now lead on goal difference but Shelbourne still have that all-important game in hand.

The battle for third spot continues - Sligo couldn't capitalise on Waterford's loss - they shipped seven in a remarkable defeat at Drogheda United. Kevin Doherty's side moved ahead of Dundalk whose game against St Patricks Athletic was postponed. Sligo remain in fourth place despite having a minus six goal difference! Galway United left Tallaght for the second time this season with a point after a one-all draw. They were ahead through Patrick Hickey's goal on 74 minutes but the returning Danny Mandroiu rescued a point for Stephen Bradley's side.

In the first division, the Leeside Derby by settled by Ruairi Keating's dramatic injury time winner for Cork City in Cobh. Three more wins will confirm Cork's return to the Premier Division as champions. UCD remain in second place - Mikey Raggett scored the only goal as Finn Harps were beaten one-nil in Belfield. Bray Wanderers picked up a huge win in their playoff quest winning one-nil at Athlone Town. Likewise, Wexford's winning run continued with a three-one win at Treaty United in their FAI Cup quarter final rehearsal. The division one weekend concluded with an entertaining two-all draw between Longford Town and Kerry.

The timely use of a joker scoreline saw Jason Shanahan open up a five point lead at the top of the August leaderboard. A remarkable haul of 51 points sees Brian Cunningham climb to second place. Greg Donaghy is also in contention in third place. Carl Toner and Andy Dunne complete the top five for August with just eight games left in the monthly competition.

August 30th and 31st - Derry City's reign at the top of the table lasted for exactly one week. That old failing of inconsistency came back to haunt Ruaidhri Higgins' side as they lost one-nil at Galway. Patrick Hickey scored the only goal of the game in the final quarter of an hour as the Tribesmen consolidated fourth spot. Shelbourne returned to the top, opening up a three point lead, with a one-nil away to Dundalk. The only goal at Oriel Park came from Aiden O'Brien who opened his account for his new side early on.

Sligo Rovers held on to third spot on Saturday night. They beat fellow European hopefuls Waterford two-nil at the Showgrounds. The goals came in each half, one from Wilson Waweru with the second from Simon Power towards the end.

Cork City are just one win away from the first division title. Sean Maguire's injury time winner against bottom side Longford Town means a win at UCD on Friday night will see the Leesiders make an immediate return to the top division. The Students won by a goal to nil down in Kerry. They have a thirteen point cushion in the play off race and will almost certainly feature in the post season games.

Wexford's second win of the month over Athlone gave them a six point gap to Finn Harps in the final play off place. Athlone remain in third place despite the defeat. Bray Wanderers scored five without reply at home to Treaty United - Kieran Cruise scored a hat-trick for the Seasiders in that one. The final game in the first division saw Finn Harps beat Cobh Ramblers two-nil in Ballybofey to leapforg their opponents.

An excellent score of 43 points from the final games of the month saw Andy Dunne win the prize for August. He had just five points to spare from Gerry Draper in second place. Brian Cunningham and Derek Clayton shared third place with Greg Donaghy finishing fifth. Full details below:
