March 7th - Two one-nil wins on the road in Dublin means Drogheda United are the unlikely leaders after a double round of games in the top division this week. A one-nil win in Dalymount against Bohemians was followed up with a win by the same scoreline in Tolka Park against the champions Shelbourne. Warren Davis got the all-important goal on Friday night to send Kevin Doherty's side top. Galway United are the only other unbeaten side in the top division. They drew one-all with Shelbourne and left the Brandywell after the same score on Friday night. The Candystripes are bottom of the table - they lost two-nil at St Patricks Athletic on Monday night with two penalties from Aidan Keena the difference between the sides. Shamrock Rovers were bottom after losing two-one at Sligo on Monday night. However, a crowd in excess of 8,000 in Tallaght on Friday night saw the Hoops record their first win of the season. Danny Grant scored the winner as Stephen Kenny and St Patricks Athletic caught the last Luas back to Inchicore with no points to show for their efforts. Colm Whelan scored a first half hat-trick as Bohemians won three-nil at Waterford on Friday night. Bohs second win of the season lifted some of the pressure on under-fire manager Alan Reynolds after Monday night's defeat. Friday's other game saw the points shared as Cork City and Sligo Rovers drew one-all in Turners Cross. In the first division, Dundalk looked like making it four wins from four until Lee Devitt headed home a late equaliser in a two-all draw. Wexford's 100% record went by the wayside with Athlone Town winning one-nil - Gideon Tetteh scored the only goal in the first half at Ferrycarrig. It was the same score in Kerry as Bray Wanderers recorded their second away win of the season. Cobh Ramblers remain unbeaten and climbed to second in the table after they hit Longford for five at St Colman's Park. The final game in the first division on Friday night saw UCD and Finn Harps play out a one-all draw. St Patricks Athletic fan Joshua Coulahan leads the March competition after picking up 72 points this week. He has a six point lead over Rob Gaffney in second place. Paul Moore is third ahead of Joseph Kavanagh and Gerry Moore - full details below: |

March 14th - A dramatic night in Sullivan Lambe Park saw Drogheda lose their unbeaten record. The league leaders went ahead through Conor Keeley but Aaron Greene equalised for Shamrock Rovers before half-time. Graham Burke scored what proved to be the winner midway through the second half. Kevin Doherty's side missed a great chance to earn a point when Ed McGinty saved Shane Farrell's injury time penalty. Drogheda still lead the way but if Rovers win their game in hand they'll be a single point behind the leaders. St Patricks Athletic are second in the table after brushing Bohemians aside, three-nil at Richmond Park. Chris Forrester opened the scoring after James Talbot's error. Mason Melia and Jason McClelland scored inside the final ten minutes to put the gloss on the scoreline for Stephen Kenny's side. Shelbourne's difficult start to the season continued - it's four without a win for Damien Duff's side who drew one-all at home to Cork City. They needed a late equaliser from Evan Caffrey, his third goal of the season, to cancel out Ruairi Keating's opener for the Leesiders. Galway are now the sole unbeaten team in the top division. Vincent Borden scored the only goal in a one-nil win at home to Waterford. John Caulfield's side are just a point off top spot now. Saturday night's game in the Premier Division saw Derry pick up their second win of the season. A one-nil win at Sligo Rovers came courtesy of Michael Duffy's fourth goal of the season and leaves the hosts at the foot of the table. Dundalk still lead the way in the first division. They won three-one at Bray. Goals from Daryl Horgan, Dean Ebbe and Eoin Kenny made it four wins from five for the Lilywhites. Max Murphy's late penalty was just a consolation for the hosts in their first game on their new pitch. Cobh Ramblers are still unbeaten too - they came from behind to win two-one away to Finn Harps. Wexford recovered from last weekend's loss at home to Athlone - Mikey Rowe scored in the last minute as they won one-nil at Treaty United to climb to third in the table. Athlone won for the second week in a row - they beat UCD two-one, the Students still to record a win this season. Longford Town's first win of the season came on Saturday night - they came out on top by the odd goal in five at home to Kerry. A fifty point haul from the weekend's games see Joseph Kavanagh move to the top of the March leaderboard - he has a four point over Rob Gaffney, still in second place. Last week's leader, Joshua Coulahan, is still in contention in third place seven points off the lead. The top five for the month so far is completed by Niall O'Donoghue and Paul Moore: |

March 21st - Just five games took place tonight, all in the first division. Dundalk made it four wins from five, beating Longford two-one. They had to come from behind to do it though - goals from Dean Ebbe and Eoin Kenny after the visitors had gone ahead through Darragh Murtagh's early goal. Cobh Ramblers kept pace with the leaders - they beat Athlone Town two-nil at St Colmans Park. Cian Murphy (his fourth of the season) and Shane Griffin on the scoresheet as the home side remain two points off the leaders. Wexford's inconsistent season continued. They've won all three games on the road this season but have lost both games played at home. Kerry were the visitors tonight and won two-one thanks to goals from Joe Adams and Christopher McQueen inside the first five minutes. Finn Harps moved off the bottom of the table - they scored five without reply against a hapless Bray Wanderers at Ballybofey. The Donegal side had five different scorers on the night as Bray ended up with ten men after Callum Costello saw yellow twice in the first half. UCD dropped to the bottom of the table after a scoreless draw at home to Treaty United. Joseph Kavanagh looks a good bet to add to his record of seven monthly competitions won - he has a nineteen point lead over the rest with just eleven games left in March. Rob Gaffney remains a distant second with Paul Moore climbing to third tonight - full details below: |
March 28th and 29th - There was late drama in Waterford as St Patricks Athletic scored twice very late on to go top of the table. The hosts were ahead until the 88th minute after Padraig Amond's opener. An own goal from Darragh Leahy levelled matters up and then Brandon Kavanagh curled home a free-kick in injury time to give Stephen Kenny three big points on the road. They're level at the top with Galway United who won two-nil at Bohemians. Two goals from Moses Dyer maintained the Tribesmen's unbeaten record and deepened the crisis in Dalymount. The twenty people who selected Alan Reynolds in the sack race might be collecting their bonus points very shortly... The top four are separated by a single point. Two goals in the first twelve minutes set Shelbourne on the road to a two-one victory in Sligo. Drogheda United came from behind to earn a hard fought point in Cork - Warren Davis cancelled out Ruairi Keating's opener from the spot in Turners Cross. The game in Tallaght between Shamrock Rovers and Derry City finished scoreless. Ed McGinty saw red early on for handling outside his area. He was joined on the sideline by Danny Mullen who received his second yellow card of the game shortly before half time. Chances were few and far between after that as the game petered out - the first nil-all draw at Tallaght in the league since late 2020. Dundalk's aim of a quick return to the top division looks more realistic week after week. Three second half goals, including two from Leo Gaxha, eased them to a win over Wexford. The Lilywhites are now five points clear at the top after Cobh Ramblers suffered their first defeat of the season - Max Murphy's injury time penalty giving Bray Wanderers a much-needed win. Just three points separate third placed Wexford from UCD in bottom place in the table. The Students picked up their first win of the season though with Ciaran Behan scoring the only goal in Kerry. Longford Town recorded their second win of the season on Saturday night beating Treaty United two-nil. Finn Harps won for the second consecutive week - they won one-nil in Athlone with Gavin Gilmore scoring the only goal just two minutes from time. Joseph Kavanagh has an eleven point lead with just Monday night's game between UCD and Bray Wanderers to go in the monthly competition. He looks a very good bet to win the monthly prize but a winner in the sack race (coughs Reynolds coughs) could change the monthly standings yet. Kevin Murphy is second in the standings followed by Donncha McMaolain. Niall O'Donoghue and Darragh Kenny complete the top five: |

March 31st - Max Murphy scored the only goal from the penalty spot as Bray Wanderers won one-nil at UCD. Only fourteen people predicted a win for the visitors so there wasn't much movement to report on the final March leaderboard. Joseph Kavanagh held on for another monthly victory for his collection. He had six points to spare over Kevin Murphy in second place in the end. Niall O'Donoghue finished in third place closely followed by Darragh Kenny and Donncha McMaolain who completed the top five for March. Full details below: |
