Ahead of the season, I've put together a little questionnaire to get some high level predictions off you for the season ahead. Let me know what you think for the various questions and we'll how those forecasts look in November. No points for these ones, just a bit of fun! |
Firstly, we had a good response with just under half the players taking part sending in a few preseason predictions: Premier Division Winners: Reigning champions Shamrock Rovers just edged this one with 42% of the votes. They had one vote more than Derry City (38%) who many think are the main challengers to their crown. The only other teams to receive a vote were Shelbourne (12%) and St Patricks Athletic (8%). Top Four Finishes: Six teams were fancied for a top four finish. Shelbourne got 27% of the votes followed by Derry City and Shamrock Rovers who both got 20%. Bohemians got 18%, good news for the hipsters of D7. St Patricks Athletic were next best with 14%. There was a solitary vote for Dundalk to finish in the top 4. I checked the IP address on this one and it came from inside Oriel Park ; ) |

The late defeat to Drogheda United on the opening night wouldn't have helped matters. Of the rest, 23% of you predicted newly-promoted Dundalk for a swift return to the first division. Waterford were next on the list with 12% followed by Sligo Rovers with 8%. No other teams came into the mix! FAI Cup Winners: Adding to the expectation Foyleside, Derry City are the hot tip for the FAI Cup - 37% of you reckon there'll be red and white ribbons on the trophy in November. Next up were St Patricks Athletic who received 22% of the votes. Only 15% think Shamrock Rovers will retain the trophy they won in beating Cork City last season. Shelbourne (11%), Bohemians (7%), Galway United (4%) and Waterford (4%) also received votes... |
